How it works

  • VDV supports any type of sensor. This can be a temperature sensor, piezometer, anemometer, water level sensor, SAA sensor or any other sensor, VDV supports them all.
  • VDV also supports any type of data logger. Most data loggers return a text based data file which can be automatically imported into VDV. If the files are not originally in a VDV compatible format the VDV file converter will automatically convert it.
  • Data is sent from the data loggers via. FTP connection or using Loggernet. If you take advantage of the VDV Cloud Servers, your data will be sent to the VDV hosted data base. If you have a locally installed version of VDV, your data will be sent to your own server.
  • As soon as the server receives the data it is converted into a VDV compatible format if needed and imported into the database. The whole process is fully automatic.
  • The imported data can now be viewed on the VDV web based interface. You can organize your data as you like, create dashboards, real time displays, graphs, alarms, give others access to the data and much much more.
  • VDV monitors new data on arrival and sends alarms as emails and/or SMS Text Messages to cellular phones if the sensor-values cross the alarm limits.
  • The Report Toolkit allows users to create Report summaries.  Select variables to include in the Report and which summary action to perform (average, max, min, sum).  The Reports can be generated as a delimited text file document or as a Microsoft Word document.

Main Features

Dashboard

Dashboards provide a simple and a quick way to gather the most important project data on one screen. Any user can create his own project dashboard. This ensures that each project participant has the information he needs on a single screen.

Real Time Display

Real Time Display (RTD) is used to give users a clear overview of all data on a single page or on multilevel pages.  Latest data can be viewed as numerical indicators and as trend lines on graphs.

Virtual Variable

Virtual Variables are used to create new calculated variables that are a mathematical function of one or more sensor readings.

Alarm

VDV monitors new data on arrival and sends alarms as emails and/or SMS Text Messages to cellular phones if the sensor-values cross the alarm limits.

Trend Lines

Vista Data Vision gives users many options in how to organize and present their data. It is easy to scroll back and forth in time or select a specific time period using a calendar control.

Access Controls

Any number of User Profiles may be created with any combination of Access Rights. It is easy to give full access to colleges and clients but limited access for less demanding users.

Overview

Data Validation

Data Validation is used to automatically or manually repair sensor data stored in the VDV database according to user defined rules. The Data Validation is useful to remove sensor readings that are clearly out-of-range, like readings with high noise caused from electrical interference or other disturbances.

Reports

The Report Toolkit allows users to create Report summaries.  Select variables to include in the Report and which summary action to perform (average, max, min, sum).  The Reports can be generated as a delimited text file document or as a Microsoft Word document.

Notes

Notes is a handy feature that allows users to keep a maintenance diary for all your Sites. When browsing data on trend lines an indicator will show if a Note is associated with the data on display, then click on the indicator and Notes will pop up.

Documents

Users may upload documents and files to VDV and make them available to other online users. Documents can include Images, Manuals, Calibration Sheets, PDF -, Word – and Excel Files.

Download Data

It is simple to download data from VDV web interface to the users’ computer. When looking at data on the VDV Dashboard it only takes one click to download the corresponding data to a text file.

Webcam

Webcams can be viewed live in VDV either separately or included in a project Real Time Display or Dashboard. Comments can be added and when scrolling historical data VDV shows webcam images for the same time period.

Visualization

Displacement Graph

The VDV Displacement Graph Toolkit is for plotting data from Displacement Sensors at various depths at certain time intervals.

In-Place Inclinometers (IPI)

View IPI data with X and Y plot along with XY Plot and Time Series. Auto detect XYZ axis and update positions on each sensor with 1 click. Get your IPI dashboard ready in minutes.

GIS

The GIS component in VDV allows you to configure your project on a GIS map. Place sensors, Dashboard, Real Time Display, Webcam, Displacement Graph onto the map and access the data in a geo-referenced view.

Create multiple GIS maps for different projects and give each customer access to his own GIS. Add custom layers to the map showing extra project information, such as construction outlines, building information, contour and more.

Quick View

Vista Data Vision gives users many options in how to organize and present their data. It is easy to scroll back and forth in time or select a specific time period using a calendar control.  You have quick access to numerical values for the graph being viewed at any time.

Burst Data

VDV Burst Data allows to import high speed dynamic data such as from instruments made by Profound. The data is imported into the VDV database and can then be viewed with all other data types already supported by VDV.

Analyze

Histogram

While browsing data in VDV user may display any time series as Histogram, adjust bin width and switch between Frequency presentation and Occurrence presentation.

XY Graph

The XY Graph (a Scatter Plot) is a flexible graphing reporting tool for plotting data pairs. It is very useful when analyzing the correlation between readings from two or more sensors.

Wind Rose

VDV offers 3 different types of Wind Roses to analyze Wind Direction Data: Basic Wind Roses, Distribution Wind Roses and Filter Wind Roses.

Diurnal Plot

Diurnal Plot is being used for long-time studies of behavior, plotting the average of hourly values of all hours 0-1, 1-2…23-24 of the chosen time period on a 24h scale.

Intensity Plot

VDV offers Intensity Plot for displaying 3D data on a 2D plot where color is used to display the values of the third dimension.

Relative Plot

Relative plot is a handy tool to display the difference of sensor readings relative to the first sensor reading of the selected time period.

Overlay Graph

VDV offers the Overlay Graph tool which is an outstanding analyzing tool for presenting a single sensor data such that daily trends (or regular trends) show clearly.

Backend

Private Labeling

VDV offers built-in tools to customize the look of the VDV web interface.  The purpose is allow operators of VDV to customize the Log-In web page with logos, text and colors and to add their logos onto the top left and top right corners of the web interface.

Responsive Web Interface

VDV web interface is designed to work with the latest mobile and tablet devices.  This means that when viewing the VDV wed interface on a mobile – or a tablet device the web page will adjust to the screen size.

File Converter

This includes data from most data logging systems, data from spreadsheet origin and data found in manually maintained data sheets.  The VDV File Converter also supports incremented data forwarded from remote data loggers via FTP transmissions.

Language

English, Spanish and German are built into VDV. It is furthermore easy to translate VDV into any language by using the Language Translation Setup of VDV.

Run as Service

VDV can be set to run as service. This means that VDV can continue as before to run after you log off from Windows.
